Gabriel is 2 Months Old!

Our baby turned 2 months old a week and a half ago!!

We took Gabe in for his 2 month check-up on the 15th. It was our first time seeing another doctor in the practice {we're rotating through the MDs for his well visits until we meet everyone!}- we liked him just like we have liked the others!

Waiting for the doctor med student (she checked him out first)...

Waiting for the doctor...
Dr. H said he won the Eyelash Award!!!

Funny story: Perry undressed him and was in the process of changing his diaper when he decided to pee again. Not unusual, but he soaked the back of his onesie, the exam table, length-measuring thing, bench and floor! Thankfully we had a pair of monkey jammies in the diaper bag.

Gabe did great {overall} considering he got three shots and an oral vaccine! Poor little guy. We held his hands to offer a little bit of comfort. Daddy looked away and my eyes filled with tears but I held them back. After the first shot, he cried out then did his silent-and-building cry... until he "exploded". We want him to get the recommended vaccines, but it's so hard to allow someone to hurt him!! He got 2 red crayon band-aids on his thighs. He didn't cry as long as I expected- I was able to console him in just a few minutes, then we went to the nursing mother's room so he could eat before we headed home!

In the elevator, already asleep!

Riding home. Even in his sleep, he made sure to let us know what he thought about getting shots!!!

Likes:
-Being held upright on a shoulder or sitting on a lap facing out
-Still loves looking at ceiling fans, lights or the television
-His vibration seat {the batteries don't last long enough!}
-Sucking on his fist
-Bath time and massage with baby lotion afterwards
-Patting his back
-Riding in the car

Dislikes:
-Spitting up and/or having to burp
-The nasal aspirator
-Being held tummy down on an arm
-His swing
-When Daddy sneezes!

Clothes/Diapers:
Gabriel has outgrown all of his newborn clothes now (most are up to 11 lbs, I think). He's in 0-3 month clothes except for sleep 'n plays which are too short in the footies so he's in 3-6 mo. ones. We switched him to size 2 diapers (Pampers) at 8 weeks old. The number of poopy diapers has significantly decreased.

New skills:
-Getting his fist to meet his mouth
-Gaining strength holding his head up
-Smiling. Daddy got his 1st one on February 7th and I got one a week later on Valentine's Day ♥ Now he smiles so much!
-Cooing!

Eating:
He is still a great eater! Usually every 3 hours, but we aren't keeping track/writing anything down anymore. A typical work night looks like this: I nurse him just before leaving for work (5:30pm), then he eats on average 4 5-ounce bottles from Daddy overnight. 3 bottles between 7pm-midnight and 1 sometime in the middle of the night, around 4am. I pump 3 times at work and restock the fridge (and sometimes add to my freezer stash!) when I get home. Usually I'm home and nursing Gabe by 8:00-8:15am, then he goes back to sleep for a few more hours! When I'm home, he exclusively breastfeeds, so Perry brings him to me in bed if I'm sleeping during the day. There has been a few occasions in the evenings when he cluster-feeds that he drinks all I've got so Perry gives him a bottle {I don't give him bottles}- filling him up really helps get him to sleep.

Sleeping:
Gabe doesn't have a "usual" time that he wakes up in the mornings. It varies. We are trying to get more of a routine down, but- I'm being completely honest here- if he sleeps in, we can sleep in too. Therefore, we aren't too eager to get him waking up every day at say, 8:00am! He gets about 3 naps during the day, each lasting an hour or two. Most nights he does not fall asleep until 12-1:00am. We don't have a "schedule" that I can document... maybe next month. As far as laying him down drowsy but not fully asleep, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't- he might cry out a few times but usually can get to sleep on his own. He used to stay in the same spot in the crib wherever we laid him down, but as he approached 2 months old, he started scooting his way down and over! He ends up in the corner with his body right up against the bumper... often trying to nurse from it. It's so cute!

I love our sweet boy and can't believe how fast he is growing!!!

Thanks! We can read and research all we want, but we learn what works best for our kid as we go!
