Halloween

I get excited about holidays and Halloween is no exception. Carving a pumpkin is a must. Perry surprised me one day in October by driving out to Cracker Barrel for lunch then taking the scenic (and very loooong) way home in order to surprise me again by stopping at Ken's Produce & Garden Center so we could pick out a pumpkin together!! He also took me to Broadwell's Nursery... the best! We buy all of our plants from them at a fraction of what home improvement stores charge! We picked out shrubs to landscape the area next to our new deck*! *Details coming soon!

Autumn & Krissie being curious. Bella LOVED eating the "guts"- if I can figure out how, I will post a video of her chomping away at some pieces of pumpkin!

Introducing "Sackboy" from Little Big Planet (on PS3)... isn't he cute?

We decided he should be painted in order to be more easily identified!
All ready for trick-or-treaters!

Perry & I gave out candy until a little after dark. Then we turned off our front porch light & made dinner! We had grilled steaks, oven roasted potatoes, and broccoli outside on the deck! Yumm. After dinner, we sat around the fire pit with beer & Mike's Hard Lemonade :)

Fourth BEE-day

In September, Perry & I piled into Mom and Dad Whitaker's car and drove to Concord, NC for little Emily Taylor's 4th birthday party!! Side note: technically "piled" isn't an appropriate action verb here because Debra drives a Honda Pilot which is very spacious! The theme of the party was Bumble Bees. My sister-in-law Cassy did a wonderful job putting it all together; Emily & her sister Lauren even had bees painted on their nails! All of the little girls and grown-ups alike enjoyed the food, decor, and games :)

They made necklaces and got fake tattoos...

The birthday girl and a friend!

There was Pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey... the "Bee Hive" version!
Can you see anything?

Will, Cassy's husband/Emily's Dad AKA the best tree trunk bee hive holder!

 Spin FOUR times...

 Isn't she precious??

Lauren giving it a go

There was a candy buffet & cupcakes...

Waiting patiently to open her presents!

Lauren made the sweetest cards for Emily. It was so touching to hear her read what she wrote about how much she loved her little sister.

There was also a pinata. Perry & I had never seen one quite like this bee: strings hung down from the bottom so the kids weren't swinging a stick around blindly! Someone got smart. After most of the strings are yanked off, the bottom begins to give out and voila... candy!

I, Big Lauren/Ladybug/Aunt Lew, was enlisted as the videographer for the day...

And last but not least (definitely not least in my book!), that silly Uncle Perry with Emi's new bee umbrella!

Oh Happy Day!

Perry Britton's birthday was a little bit ago at the end of November October September August! Regardless, my

dear husband is 26 now!!

There were several celebrations with family & friends in his honor.

Since I had to leave for work early (I was still on day shift then), I left the birthday boy a surprise to wake up to: red streamers and lots of balloons strewn all over the floor of our living room! We were mid-way through the project of painting trim so please ignore the mess...

Heartfelt homemade cards from his sister Cassy & her sweet girls Lauren & Emily

Perry with his chocolate-chocolate cake decorated with peanut butter M&M's! I'm pretty sure I performed a solo of "Happy Birthday" before allowing him to blow out the candle

A few days later we went out for dinner at the Carolina Ale House with some of his boys. They didn't seem keen on posing for a picture so this is what I ended up with (without the flash to be polite to other diners)!

Me, Perry & Jon. Hah!

Beer + "Birthday Nachos" = vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, Oreo crumbles & chocolate syrup over greasy nacho chips. Our stomachs were upset that night...

After dinner, we moved on for a couple of drinks & a few rounds of pool! I wasn't the only girl for the whole night- Jon's girlfriend Ivey met up with us downtown but we didn't get any pictures together :(

This year Perry took part in a family tradition that's been around since I was itty bitty. For your birthday dinner, you can have whatever you want- no rules! I would not be way off in guessing that 90% of the meals my Mom and Dad prepared included at least one meat, one starch, one veggie, and often a salad. With milk to drink. But that goes out the window on your birthday. YOU pick!

My Mom & Paul had us over for a yummy meal of beer-butt chicken, sauteed zucchini, broccoli, mashed potatoes & salad followed by Momma's homemade cheesecake!

After dinner, Paul was really hot.

Blowing out the candles as we sing to him!

His last cake- yes, he got three birthday cakes!- was a tasty strawberry shortcake that his Mom Debra made for him when we stopped by his parent's house on the next night!
